  2. A neighbor girl friend was teaching me ballet because my Mother refused to let me take class with her. I was around 8 or 9 years old. My girlfriend's mother told my mother. My mother was upset but did not say anything to me until Halloween. When I got home from school and got ready to trick or treat I discovered that my mother was going to make me trick or treat as a ballerina. When I protested she told me that I must want to be a ballerina because my girlfriend had been teaching me ballet every week after her own class.

That was my first but not last time in a leotard, tights, slippers and a classic tutu.

As an adult I have taken serious and professional ballet classes up through the intermediate level. At home I do all my workouts in a
    leotard and tights.

I also attend ballet performances as often as possible.

100% true, by the way. Love your blog.

    1. Wow! That is amazing! Did your mother dress you like that because she finally understood? Or was it meant to try to humiliate you into stopping? I hope it was because she understood.

  3. Leeanne's she was very unhappy. I had asked my Mom if I could go to class with Ann, my girlfriend neighbor. My mother tole me that boys do not take ballet. So Ann was showing me every week what she did in class. And, of course, my mother found out. Her intent was to shame me into ever being interested again in ballet. It, obviously did not work.

I was, at the time, highly embarrassed but Ann went with me also dressed as a ballerina. A lot of people thought we were two girls.
